    Santander, a city linked to the seaenlace: We start our trip in Santander, the capital of Cantabria, a small city that hosts one of the most beautiful bays in the world. In front of Santander you will find the municipality of Ribamontán al Mar with beaches like Langre, Loredo, el Puntal or Somo, places that attracts the attention of surfers at a national and international level.     Another interesting destination for the tourist is located in the beautiful town of Santillana del Mar, which was already mentioned in our Top 10 Charming Villages in Spainenlace. You will find the Caves of Altamira that will soon be reopened to limited groups of tourists wishing to visit the natural caves where the most famous Prehistory paintings are located. In order to learn about the global relevance of these caves do not miss its museum which includes a new Neocave, a magnificent three-dimensional reproduction to show locals’ habitat and the beauty of its paintings.

    Comillas, the “Caprice village”enlace
    Comillas is located only a few kilometres away from Santillana del Mar. This is a beautiful coastal locality led by the “Capricho de Gaudi”, one of the first works of art of the brilliant architect Antonio Gaudi, an architectural caprice where the inside and outside can be visited in order to understand the originality of the creative process of this Spanish artist. You might have heard about the Pontifical University, a place chosen by students worldwide visiting Spain to learn Spanishenlace.

    The valley of Cabuerniga and the Pas and Miera Valleys to taste the best gastronomy of Cantabriaenlace: To recover from the long journeys, where you will miss many other wonderful excursions, the most advisable option is to go to Valley of Cabuerniga to taste the most traditional regional dish called the Cocido Montañes (Mountain Stew), made of beans and cabbage with chorizo, black pudding, rib or bacon…A delight! You cannot leave Cantabria without visiting Pas and Miera Valleys, with its stories, locals, landscapes and traditions. We finish our trip here while tasting a delightful quesada pasiega (traditional dessert made of cheese) and sobaos (sponge cake made with cream and lard) which are two of the most famous desserts of Cantabria, although we cannot forget about its delicious cheese.
